Exemplary Lecture Video: English Foundation Course admin 2024-03-13

HUF has been supporting professors to create online lecture materials supported by the Korean Ministry of Education.

To assist professors in producing high-quality lecture videos, we have selected a course 'English Foundation' produced by Professor James Lee from Handong Global University as an exemplary sample.

The 'English Foundation' class is designed to enhance the English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills of students.

The showcased lecture in this video focuses on English listening from Week 9 of the English Foundation course, with the theme of ‘Happiness’.

The original video is 57 minutes long, but HUF has edited it down to 13 minutes with Vrew(AI-assisted video editor) to effectively show the outstanding features.

The reasons why this video has been selected as an excellent sample are as follows.

1) Well-Organized Lesson Plan

- Clarity: The professor demonstrates a solid understanding of the content, and all the explanations are clear. (you can observe this point throughout the video.)

- Step by Step: The lesson is paced gradually with a structured approach. For instance, before listening activities, there is a vocabulary study, followed by various activities related to the theme of ‘Happiness.’ (please check 01:00)

- Overall Flow (a~c repeated throughout the activities)

a. Explain content and activities. (01:47, 03:28, 04:39, 09:50)

b. Allows 1-2 minutes for students to think. (02:03, 09:08, 10:05)

c. Poses questions and verifies answers using animations. (04:24, 5:11, 09:35, 10:14)

d. Incorporates supplementary materials (07:49)

e. Provides a comprehensive summary and guides Homework for the next class. (10:36)

2) Student-Centric and Interactive Attitude (you can observe these points throughout the video)

- Kindness: kind voice and correct pronunciation, provide detailed guidelines, explanations and answers

- Natural engagement, including facial expressions and gestures

- Two-way communication: Encouragement, activities, and questions throughout the lecture to keep students engaged.

- Various attention-grabbing elements: the professor wearing a pink shirt, constant shifting of the video position

3) Visual Materials

- Effective utilization of diverse colors, graphics, and icons for visual appeal. (you can observe these points throughout the video.)

- Integration of a headset icon during listening segments to enhance student focus. (05:03)

- Incorporate time indicators when giving time to students to visually convey the remaining time. (02:18, 09:21, 10:05)

- Utilization of external videos (07:49)
