Intercultural Communication is a foundational course designed to equip Communication Arts students with the theoretical knowledge, analytical skills, and practical competencies required to communicate effectively across cultures. In an increasingly globalized and digitally interconnected world, communication professionals must navigate differences in values, beliefs, norms, identities, and communication styles. This course explores how culture shapes meaning-making, interpersonal interaction, media representation, organizational communication, and public discourse. The course introduces major theoretical frameworks in intercultural studies that will enable students to critically examine how culture influences perception, identity construction, power relations, conflict management, and ethical communication practices. Delivered through an online learning environment, the course integrates multimedia lectures, case studies, and notes, with emphasis on real-world application within media practice, public relations, development communication, digital communication, and corporate contexts. Students will develop intercultural competence evidenced through awareness, empathy, adaptability, and professional communication strategies suitable for diverse and multicultural audiences.
