Syllabus
The course emphasizes on basic principles of chemical engineering discipline and to acquaint students with the fundamentals of chemical engineering calculations such as the basics of material balances and energy balances without chemical reactions or with chemical reactions or combustion systems. It also helps for students to develop important problem solving and critical thinking skills. For basic principles of chemical engineering, the content addresses identification of unit operations, unit processes units of measurements, unit conversion, measurement and analysis methods for physical quantities. For material balances, the content explains how to determine material balances without chemical reactions or with chemical reactions of single system and multiple systems at steady state condition. For energy balances, the course content describes how to quantify energy balances without chemical reaction or with chemical reactions for closed and open systems of single unit and multiple units at steady state condition. For integrated material and energy balances, the course explains how to determine both material and energy balances for single and multiples systems at steady state condition. For unsteady state integrated material and energy balances, the course content describes how to determine both material and energy balances as a function of time.
